2) Give someone you trust a spare key
Even if it’s a habit common to many people, don’t leave your keys hidden somewhere under the doormat, into the flowerpot or above the window. As a matter of fact, thieves always check there, in the first place. It would be much better to entrust a copy of your keys to someone you trust, so that they can go and check your house every now and then.
