5) Presence of blood
If you notice the presence of blood while cleaning your ears, a perforation of the eardrum may be in progress. First of all, make absolutely sure that it actually is blood, as sometimes the color of earwax resembles that of clotted blood. If you are positive that blood is present, get to the nearest emergency room at once or see your doctor.
