Industries often add high amounts of salt, in addition to some dangerous chemical elements, especially nitrates and nitrites for preservation. Additives should make the product more desirable, but they often pose a high health risk. Alternative: eat organic, no-processed meat with no preservatives. Or try a vegan/vegetarian option.
