16) Meat, smoked fish and barbecue
Smoked meat is an essential part of any garden party. However, during the smoking process, it absorbs a large amount of charcoal, which is a carcinogen. Especially, bacon, ham, sausages and other similar meats that are rich in salt. Excessive consumption of smoked meat has been statistically associated with the development of intestinal cancer by Fritz, W., and Soos,K.(1980).
When these foods are barbecued, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons form. Polycyclic hydrocarbons are dangerous chemicals that, according to Cancer Research UK, promote cancer. However, this is an unproven assumption, so there is not yet enough evidence to convince people not to do it.
